Gold isn't useless, you can buy many stuff with it. You just need to have lots of those to buy good stuff. Just save up, and buy what you want. You can buy gold with platinum though.

Platinum is for extra features of the game, and I emphasize on the word "extra". Gold is in-game currency used to buy equipment and necessities.

my friends are even worse, they could make millions of platinum..youll soon learn that 1k gold isnt a lot. In fact, if you want, add my first character and find me ingame, ill give you some gold.

The only thing you really need plat for is unlocking content, meaning campaigns and PvP map packs. Other than that it's just for extras like increased inventory, extra character slots, fancy hats, etc. Gold can buy you gear, potions, even elixirs, all the essentials
