Closing the app and restarting fixes it too. I had it happen once while changing between alts.

On topic: Same has happened to me and yeah I just changed map and they came back

just close the app and wait for a few seconds, then go back to AL and it should work fine
That happened to me too
But yeah, I restarted my app and everything was ok again

Just to clear this up, sometimes when a server comes up it can take a little while for all of the information to load, including friend and guild lists. If this happens, give it a few mins and it will usually come up just fine.
