Red face Jessica Watson - Youngest to sail solo and unassisted around the world

hi i saw this on TV today, theres a 16 year old girl from Australia that sailed around the world non-stop for 210 days and arrived home in sydney harbour today.

i probly sound a bit gay posting this but you gotta admit, thats pretty inspirational, plus shes pretty good looking too!

Nice, thanks for the link. If I remember right, I'd heard about her when she set out, but didn't realize she had made it home and completed her historic journey.

The SF Gate (local news here from the Bay Area) had a thoughtful piece about it: Jessica Watson, 16, shows Miley Cyrus what "role model" is.

apparently she didn't go far enough past the equator or sumthing, oh and her achievement doesn't count as a record because Guinness world records dont apply to anyone under the age of 18 (which i personally think is stupid)

shes an australian hero now, she got a bigger welcome than the queen when she arrived in sydney harbour.

Just throwing it out there, the title of the article is one of the best I've ever viewed in my life.

    Impressive feat indeed.

yep, us kids are tough in australia ^-^

my girlfriend of 13 months dumped me yesterday and all it took was a free zombie shield to cheer me up.

yep... we can get through anything

EDIT: *realises how sad my story is in comparison*

    I dont think its stupid.

I think its good, otherwise people will start trying to force their kids to do wild things in some misguided bid for fame. Most parents would not trust their kid with the car on a Saturday night, and here we get two parents trusting their kid to sail around the world eating spam. Mmmm spam. But my point is, when she first started her sailing attempt, she got a lot of flack from the media about it. And now that she is back, everyone forgets the bad things they said, and welcome her as a hero. Because you gotta be a total douchebag to be a wet blanket. Thankfully or unthankfully I am such a douchebag and I think it is still a crazy thing to do. Whoppie for her, and now what are we going to say to the next 15 year old kid wanting to beat her feat?

Its not that I want to be a prick, but the more we harp on issues of OMG YOUNGEST PERSON TO DO XXXX, the more we encourage such acts. Some records are not made to be broken.

splurd, i do understand where your coming from, but she has done our nation proud and her msg was not only to young australians but to young australian women that they can achieve their dreams. and i think that gave alot of young australians hope, i personaly have been having trouble finding a job as there is 70% unemployment in my area, and this young female gave me hope that if she can sail around the world, i can surely get a job if i try hard enough.

im not saying a 12 year old kid should fly around the world in a hot air balloon, most kids dont have dreams that big, but jessica watson gave them the strengh to believe they can achieve their dreams. and i dont think that is such a bad thing.

and its not like jessica watson was some spoilt arrogant teen that got her parents to buy her a million dollar pink boat, she had been sailing for 5 years and she planned every stage of her journey and even did repairs on her own boat, from stitching the sails back together to repairing the toilet. she obviously knew what she was doing.
