Pocket Monsters....a pet idea

I, like many others in the game like the idea of having pets or mounts, but again like many others I can see the imbalance that this could bring to the game. So I will begin my suggestion with the mention of a game that I used to play that made me think of this.....Monster Rancher.

So to begin I envision pets or mounts in this game as being almost like vanity items, they contain no worth themselves and anyone can have them as long as you purchase them with platinum. The cost of the pet or mount would be determined by the pet and its size, shape, or the abilities that it can or will eventually posses. This could be treated like a Pvp idea except you do not join, maybe you can ride it if the pet or mount is big enough. But again the pet gains no advantage by having your character on it.

Now here is where Monster Rancher comes in, the ability to train your pet via sending them away to camps or on quests alone. Like MR you do not physically see them working or questing (old MR), they are just gone from you and you do not know their fate until they return. Quests could yield items for your character and training can yield stat boosts for your pet. A level system could be implemented but I will leave that up to people more knowledgeable on the subject. Who knows....maybe there could be a whole town dedicated to raising and caring for pets, where the market is trading in gear and elixirs for their companion.

I just hope it doesn't turn out like pokemon, nothing against pokemon but I am too old for the cuteness of it all. I always leave my suggestions vague because I like how the community responds with their own suggestions, so shoot and let's make it a better idea.

Cool idea but pets should also be drops and can be purchased with gold ...(Its okay if the pets u buy with gold Are worse than the ones u buy with plat..)

Thank you conradin, and I agree KaotiicxDream they should drop as well, there could be purple and pink drops of pets and just like the plat store the drops would be better and have more stats depending on the rarity.

i dont agree on them dropping it should be more like you kill the strongest boss from each campaign and you have a chance of him joined you on your "quest" or just running off

HAHA I laughed because I used to be a Pokemon addict about 10 years ago, and Pocket monster was the real name for POKEMON.
So i was like: implement Pokemon in PL? WTF?

Or you randomly get the ability to adopt a enemy after it is defeated, the chance of this happening could be very rare.

Hmm.. I personally dont like plat pets; its just a show off kinda thing then. The pets that I imagine in PL are lootable/tradeable. This will show luck and work in farming, not who devotes the most money :-/

It isn't about money or the ability to buy things that motivates the plat pets idea, personally I will not purchase any pets if they were to be only obtainable with platinum purchases. It is just a way for the developer to make more money from people too lazy to farm for their pets, the cost could be astronomical for all I care, I will not use plat for any content other than maps and to expand my inventory. I too would prefer to buy my pets in the cs or find them via farming and random runs, I only hope that we are able to customize our pets so we have some sense of individuality to them. If we could customize them then I would begin to spend my plat on my favorite pet without caring about the cost (too much).

you know, there are games within games. like a card game within some rpg, or the casino in pokemon, etc. here it can be "can you collect them all?" and where you can go to a special arena to "train" them against other people and be the "champion"

Very valid point Arterra many games have games within the game, some are quite addicting and become the highlight of the game and is remembered for years on. Like the addicting card game in Final Fantasy 8 or the town building side game in Dragon Warrior 7, some of the best games have these hidden gems built inside them and attract many people.

I'm not very like overwhelmed about the pets in PL, but meh if they add them hopefully they'll listen to the community a lot which they do already and fix any tweaks in imbalances.
