Is the Adventurer's Kit supposed to level you up?

I was under the impression that buying the "Adventurer's Kit" levels up your character. I waited until 40 to buy one for my rogue and I didn't level. Was this just a rumor? I wish I'd bought it earlier if it isn't true.. Got 27,500 xp to go now :/

You have 27500 left and it states you level up if you have completed 85% to the next level, so 27500 85% meaning you require 23375 and therefore saving 4125xp

I was solely under the impression that purchasing the Adventurers Kit gave you a constant 15% xP earning bonus, 10 platinum and the courage the lion pet.
