Yes the advantage of 1 para gem (your first one) is huge. You gain 7.5 damage * whatever bonus damage you have. So, if you have a 200% damage bonus, one para gem will give you 15 damage.

Any para gem after the first will only provide 2.5 damage, so the benefit isn't worth it beyond that.

I believe that the next para gems give only 2 damage, but yes, IMO anything more than 1 para gem is overkill. It boosts your stats but the boost is not worth the gold you put into it.
