Probably because pets picking up eggs makes farm botting a hell lot easy lol~
Maybe crates and chests are too heavy for them? And the eggs might break if they pick it up. Lol
They were never supposed to pick up chest, crates and eggs. I think it adds to the experience when you yourself gets to pick-up high quality loot

Lol my yowie stops attacking sometimes, then we have a staring contest to see if he moves...my longest has been a whole minute of bracken mobs hitting me while i watched my yowie snoozing away
They don't pick up them cuz that way we can take screenshots of our loots
