The problem with life giver is that on difficult maps, you are dead by the time you charge heal. Even if you don't die, it has a long cool down, so you gotta use pots anyways. On easy maps you don't need heal, so what's the point in wasting a skill slot.
Any mage who considers himself an end game player should consider how crippling heal is to your party. There's no room for heal if you have clock, gale / fire, ice and light. I mean, which one of those would you give up for heal? None if you ask me
