Is not only a matter of long cool down.. using heal, especially with the regrown skill, causes an insane mobs aggro on the poor mage and in hard elite is a big problem, not only for the mage but for all the party.
Shield guarantees survivabilty and, with the 2 secs of invulnerability, you've also the time to fix a little better the crowd or, eventually, clock'em'all
I use lifegiver atm. Would be nice to pick up lightning instead of healing ppl. Hmmm
Oh lol, you really give any..... Crap..... To such »»»cave men/women? People who threaten you to leave are anyway of no use at all xD.
Lifegiver is a waste of skill points on pve and as mage your primary focus should be crowd and control if you want to survive any longer.
