How To Fix Google Play Store's "Error: -18"

Yeah, so I figured I'd write this quick guide to help my fellow Arlorians who have been unable to download AL's new client due to the evil "Error: -18"

So What Is Error: -18?
Honestly, I don't know much about this, other than the fact that its a Google Play issue that happens when Android's smdl2tmp1.asec file becomes corrupted (which happens somewhat often)
There's not much documentation provided by Google's Support documentation

A few things before we start

• Power off your android device before removing the SD Card
• Yep, thats about it...

Android OS creates a file called "smdl2tmp1.asec".
It is most likely the reason that causes Error: -18
btw, you can delete this file, but it will keep being re-created by Android OS
Error: -18 happens when the smdl2tmp1.asec file becomes corrupted

Step 1
Remove your device's SD card, and plug it into the card reader on your laptop
(or if you don't have a laptop and/or a card reader, just plug your device to your computer directly)

Step 2
locate smdl2tmp1.asec

/sdcard/.android_secure/smdl2tmp1.asec

For those who don't understand the line above,
LOCATE the "sdcard" folder from your device's folders
LOCATE the ".android_secure" folder
FIND and DELETE "smdl2tmp1.asec"

Step 3
Download AL via your Android device's google play store
Enjoy

If people aren't using their SD cards much and is mostly empty. Simply Format the SD card from your phone and you should be good to go. Another way is to keep in mind that .asec files are app security files, you'll have functionality issues with some apps if you delete it.

Android will recreate the file.

Hello Ruizhe, I wasn't able to locate that file. I've went through my phone using RAR and it's located in /storage/sdcard1/ . But I couldn't find it when I plug my cable into the computer, connected to my phone. Need help ASAP, ty!

You should be able to find it if your android device has a File Manager app installed
if not, then download the AL apk directly from the sts website

I've tried installing from that link you've given. Guess what? Tough luck.

It was all and well at "Installing..." and the progress bar. After 30 - 60 seconds, it said "× App not installed."

I've tried clearing cache, restarting, taking out and putting in SD Card. None of them worked.

I still need further advice.

just close play store ( never trust google when he says anything about android)

just get full setup provided by Devs (or scroll up there is a link in above posts) and install it.
