@Elly - The math does work out a little different using Sandy's method. Your final bracket would have to be predetermined based on total entries. For example: if you have 20 bears enter, u dont want to have a 16 bear final bracket. Might as well put them all into one bracket. My opinion would be to make a final bracket of 8 if u have less than 30 bears enter and a final bracket of 16 for more than 30.
The next is group division. You could have 3-5 bears in a group. Each bear fights each other one time and the top two are placed into your final bracket. If there is a record tie where u have three bears with the same record, then they coukd each fight again to settle the final two.
Just remeber ur final BRACKET would have to contain 8, 16, or 32 for the math to work out correctly.

Stick with groups of 4, if this group idea is the way it ends up. Group of 8 is too big and would require 7 matches each just to get out of Group play to the "tree". And getting that many "group" matches together with all the time zones involved = trouble waiting to happen.Do you mind explaining on the thread about the numbers possible for the group?
It'd help if everyone got a chance to read why, IMO
Since we're grouping and its 1v1, I'd assume groups need to be either 4 or 8 people? Then at least 2, 4, or 8 groups too?
