Firstly welcome to the forums. Lots of friendly and informative people on here. Feel free to look around and if you can't find the info you need then feel free to ask.
If you want some general playing info then check out the 'SL Stuff' link. I'm building a list of some of the great guides people are writing. For your question I would check out the general playing section, and then one of the engineer, commando or operative sections
