Armor or Dmg reduction pets

Confused about pets that provide armor and pets that provide dmg reduction.

So for example a pet provides 100 armor and another pet provides dmg reduction by 2%. Could anyone who understands this please explain in detail which of these pets is better for defence and how?

^^ this is the one i was talking abt the one right above, dev says i think that dam red > armor (in most cases)
