Sorry to derail the OP from an Op discussion to a general discussion, hope it's okay since this is the biggest the SL forum has on gear/set discussion.
I just got 30 and I got the full plat armours for commando as well as a few weapons, still working on that custom set since I'm slowly collecting pieces/crafting materials.
I love the damage/crit the plat set gives, which made me think that the plat set kinda makes sense.
AFAIK, Op plat set gives dodge (survival) while custom set gives good crit (damage). Commando plat set gives crit (damage) while custom set gives good dodge/armor (survival). Not sure on Eng since I haven't seen comparison on both.
It makes sense because the custom set (attainable in-game) gives exactly what the class role is supposed to be, Op gives damage and Commando gives tanky-ness. The plat set gives the opposite. Which makes sense, you don't have to have the plat gear, it's an alternative.
In PL terms, its like the custom set is a str/tank set for bears, while the plat set is a dex/crit set for bears.
That's what I've noticed and my opinion.
yeah but I find it weird that a set with extra dodge has lower hp...doesn't that defeat the purpose? Possibly killing faster with more health > Possibly killing slower with a CHANCE of not getting hit with less health...
Crit is the most vital offensive stat besides damage.
Dodge is the most vital defensive stat, period.
So I would say that you could use either set for Ops or Commandos depending on your playing style. However, I think in terms of class focus, most people will like to use the non-plat versions of armor, giving crit to the damage-dealing class, and dodge to the tank class.
