Exclamation How to Effectively Kite in PVE

I am writing this guide after much observation, watching members of my parties die in bravura. You will find yourself in situations where you are outmatched by the enemies, and you are dying fast. Real fast. As courageous as it seems to duke it out with everything that comes in your path, there will be moments when the enemy will overpower you, resulting in death. There is much more reward from staying alive than dying and having to start over. Your party will have one less member to provide firepower and share the damage taken.

Star Legends has proven a bit pricey when it comes to stims.

Veterans may better control mobs of enemies but for anyone out there who would like a chance to survive a beatdown, hopefully this guide can help you.

    What is Kiting?

Kiting, in my own definition is a hit-and-run tactic, widely used in MMORPGs. It's use is highly debatable in PVP (Player vs. Player) but it is a wondrous tactic to use in PVE (Player vs. Enemy).

You target an enemy (or enemies) and keep a distance from them so you are taking the least amount of damage as possible. Kiting is easiest in dungeons like Numa Prime, where there is abundant space to move around. Dungeons with hallways and small rooms might make it a bit more difficult to kite a large group of enemies.

All weapons in Star Legends, besides your fists are range weapons. Pistols, dual pistols, and boxing gloves(Photon Hands and Hammer Fists) are of shortest range, Heavy Weapons provide a medium-Long range, and rifles provide the farthest attack range. They do not however change the reach of certain skills that have a fixed range. I would not say there is a single weapon class that lets you kite the best. It depends on your ability to maneuver your character.

There is no single way to kite, but the general way is to continue keeping distance while dealing damage to the enemy with ranged attacks and skills.

Most beginners should utilize kiting for a couple of reasons:

    1) Stim Packs can be expensive, and are recommended to be used as a last resort when near death.

    2) Incompetent party: they may not be cooperative, engineers may not heal, and commandos may not retain aggro, resulting in heavy damage to the rest of the party.

    3) Some areas may be too overwhelming. Especially against Juicers (muscular robotic enemies) enemy commandos, Vular Commandos, and Vular Tickers, where kiting might be imperative.

Kiting While Using Skills and Crowd Control

If you've got regular kiting down, now try using it with skills. Suppression with Engineers is an excellent crowd control skill to use with kiting. You can target one enemy, and cast Suppression to lower the number of enemies chasing you. Operatives can use Flame of Insanity and many other skills to reduce enemies chasing them.

When You Think You Just Won't Make It Out Alive

You can fall back, and keep falling back. Stop your attack if you must. Enemies will reset and run back to where they were originally standing if you move too far from their predatory distance. it might feel like a waste of time for some, but if you value being alive and you are concerned with your death count, this is a useful option.

    Other Tips
    * All in all, hopefully you won't need to kite in an effective party. If a commando is there, stay right behind him and cover him with support fire, healing and armor buffs if necessary.

    * Don't get too greedy with how many enemies to take on at once. This is the easiest way to die.

    * Use skills to control your enemies while still dealing damage.

    * Kiting works best on enemies that do not have ranged attacks. You can run in a circle while they chase you.

    * Run if you have to. There is no shame in losing a battle to win the war.

    * Use Stims sparingly. Watch your health bar and you use one or two when your health drops below 25%.

    * Use corners and obstacles to wait for cooldowns.

    * When kiting, watch the enemies' health closely. Some may be closer to dying than the one you have currently targeted. Tap on that enemy to finish it off. One less to take damage from.

That's all I have for now. Hopefully it will help those who were frustrated with constant deaths. Star Legends is a team-oriented game. Let your party members fill their roles. If they're not, give friendly reminders.

This guide is not for everyone. Some don't need to kite. They can take care of themselves. It's your choice to use this to your advantage. Like everything in life, practice is required to master it.

If you have anything to add that would be helpful to this thread, I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks for reading!
