Save up for Nightshade. It's worth it. If you absolutely can't spend more than 50k, then Colton as stated above is a good choice. Nilbog is great too if you find him cheap (haven't checked prices recently)

nightshade is by far the cheapest pet that is helpful in terms of stats and aa. go for nightshade, but if you really need a pet right away go for ethyl or colton as mage.
