My mage currently using Fireball,Heal,Clock and Gale to level slowly. Shield is useless to me at that level since i run kt4 mostly. To answer your question, respec your skills and swap Shield with something else ( Frost or Gale )

Lightning is more for dps build and ice is a crowd control type build.

So if you feel short on damage while lvling(depends on where u run) you could go light.

Or if you feel like you die alot or faster anyway, ice can be a good supplement to control mobs)

Either way, good luck leveling and don't forgot to get all you dailies and you'll level up fast!

this should be your build at lvl61-66 (: Shield , fireball , clock , ice . all passives except speed , max clock mastery ( pleeeaaassee dont use heal in pve ) . Upgrades :

Shield - 1,3,4 ( no displacement wave)
Clock - take everything
Fireball - 1,2,3 ( skip last )
ice - 1,2,3 ( skip last )
Lighting - 1,3 ( only take extra crit damage and extra damage ) Use lighitng for boss fights only .

*skills listed in oder of how important they are lighting is the last thing you need to worry about for pve . Also if you have any left over points add them to fireball mastery
* later on you might want to replace frost with gale since it gives you armor buffs and has along AoE stun , in this case use all left overs on gale mastery instead of FB one.

Frost > lightning

Even non upgraded frost freezes enemies, and has several upgrades that are crowd control. Lightning is mostly single target and you have to upgrade to start getting any crowd control out of it.

Besides that, skip shield, spam pots and take 4 attacks to best help the group, imho.
I'm happy with fire, ice, clock, and gale personally.

I have a lvl 46 mage. Its skills are fireball, lightning, arcane shield and heal at the moment. I was considering whether i should respec my points and change lightning for frost or keep it.

For you, at the moment, it would be best to replace lightning with frost because frost will provide much needed crowd control from a mage..... Lightning is more of a "singular" attack that's more effective against more solo opponents (like bosses, maybe PVP, ETC.), lightning should only be one of your normal skills if you use "four" attack skills...... I personally use 4 attacks "only and always" (fire, ice, clock, lightning), some use gale but, if you do, PLEASE do not break up mobs with charged gale, nothing more irritating than that (lol)..........

But, yeah....... Use frost instead for now.... As you build up your character closer to endgame, you will become more accustomed to the skills and their respective effectiveness when running the various maps and facing different bosses and challenges.
