Last year's "Xmas Portal Hunter" elixir was 50 Platinum. This year it's half that.
The Winter Festival access costs 2 Platinum (as it always has).

Winter festival access also lets you enter grotto if my memory serves me correct?

No. If you don't have the portal access elixir the portal tells you that you'll be ripped to shreds if you try to enter.

Of course... maybe you're talking about some way of working around the intended design?

Im not sure. I remember only paying 4 plat for a grotto elixir. Map was hostable but only as a solo map. Any idea on the length of the 25 plat elixir?

Ye for sure i dont remember grotto being 25 plat. 100% positive it was 2-4 plat for a 4 hour elix to farm grotto (or until you kill killjoy and get loot) and was like 15k gold per run. @Cinco

Grotto was 50.

I'm getting the feeling that most folks went around the system last year.
