    Default Focus vs. Energy Orb

As the title says, what do you guys recommend? Currently on T9. Focus seems really useful for weapon damage, but energy orb has just sheer spell power. I'm currently running heal, ice storm, lightning.

I'm also an avid PvPer is STS' games, so I'm also trying to think ahead of the future (in the event that respecs are not a thing by then). Basically, do I go for weapon damage or spell damage?

Focus! It's effect last about 10 secs as far as I can tell. Turns basic weapon attack into spell level damage.

Energy Orb is (cone?) aoe for up to 5 targets in its path. And tricky. Sometimes it goes the wrong way and totally misses target.

I would actually like to hear opinions on Energy Orb vs. Vortex.
Focus seems like a must in this state of the game.

    @Ydra

After trying both orb & vortex for 3 training levels, I decided to abandon orb and continue training vortex.

Like I stated above, orb seems to be a little errant at times, I'm sure it's a fault of mine but too many misses or targeting crates annoyed me. The enemies had to be positioned in the perfect way to get its maximum effect, which wasn't always that easy.

Vortex draws everything in to its target. This includes bombs and crates. So..if deployed skillfully, you get focus bonus, vortex damage, slow, stun, damage from the ensnared triggered bombs and sometimes bonus powerups waiting to be collected.

In the end, both are good...I just liked the carnage and humor that vortex brings.

Vortex has a target cap of 5 as well. Unfortunately, the bombs and crates that get sucked into the vortex also count as enemy targets. But it's still sooo much fun!

Choosing skills has gotta be one of the hardest things to do! It seems to me focus is essential, but then lightning and ice storm vs vortex and energy orb is such a tough decision. It seems that maybe lightning and ice storm could end up being better with the shorter cool down. But I dunno what the max damage will be for both so I just don't know...

I use lightning, focus, vortex...seems like best of both worlds. I just can't give up lightning.

I feel that! I think I might end up keeping Focus, lightning, and ice storm. But I'm just not sure haha.

I inquired about ice storm. Here is what I learned.

Ice storm hits up to 5 targets per tick(duration approx 6secs) If a target dies, it can pick up a new target. So, in theory, it can target the most of any spell.

Seems like a pretty good alternative to vortex if you have trained it up high enough.

I really hope they do NOT do this. I think part of the fun of the game is making those tough decisions. If respec is allowed, then what will happen is the same as happened in AL & PL -- after tons of testing, a few players will determine whatever spec is the "best", and then everyone will copy, and everyone will be the same. Then during the next season, the process will repeat, and everyone will once again change to whatever is the new "best".

Without respec, then everyone is forced to make tough decisions and stick with them. Remember that in this game there is no classes. So with a respec then everyone can basically be the exact same, except for looks. Imagine if in AL everyone had been able to be a rogue during the level 41 cap. Or if everyone could become a sorcerer during the 56 cap. If it had been possible, that is what would have happened, and it would have been bad for the game.

In PLA my weapon of choice is the nunchucks. Why did I chose that weapon? I like the way it looks, but also because I noticed very few players were using them and I wanted to be different. Are nunchucks better than other weapons? I have no idea! But I like being different, and hopefully at some point nunchucks will be better than other weapons. If PLA is like every other STS game, then which weapon is more OP will change with the level cap, and it will rotate over time. So eventually there will be a time when nunchucks will be great. And it will suck if suddenly everyone can change to that weapon and be as well trained as me who has used it the whole time.

I just made it to tier 10. My spells are focus, lightning and heal. I see most people on here use 3 offensive spells. How do you survive? I thought heal was as essential as focus? My attack rating is 2100 and my defense rating is 2300-2400.

I know a lot of players use heal to one star new maps and when farming for new gear at the newest tier they have unlocked.

I think any build is possible if it's trained up properly.

    Cheers and Merry Christmas all.

I haven't used heal ever and stopped using Lingo after like Tier 6 or 7, I'm only having trouble with 1 map in Tier 10, I can survive for the most part with 2650 defense.
