Default 2handed weapon vs Pistol and shield

okay heres the question every commando wants to know....
a pistol and a shield or 2 handed weapon

Im currently using a legendary pistol ( razor blade ) and pink star shield
    vs
    electricity cannon

My stats are HIGHLY superior on my pistol and shield by over 200 armor and 50 dps...
but everyone says that 2 handed weapons are better for aoe
is this true if i use a 2 handed weapon it will be better for aoeing? then pistol and shield

2 handed weapons give more base damage, which gives more skill damage. Technically they are better, but they have their pros and cons.

    Shield and pistol
    -more armor
    -IMO looks cooler :P
    -Gives stat bonus

    Electrical cannon
    -More AOE
-not as much armor so your squishy (unless yours using a 2x armor enhancer)

    Splash dmg is AoE.

All of this depends on what you will be doing.

AoE is great to kill mobs.
A rifle is great when you have growing rage at l6.

Pistols are more single target dmg, and imo are only good in pvp.

If you need a more detailed description, let me know. I need to clean and then I'll tell you what you'd like to know. Lol

K buddy lets get into this.

Splash damage is AoE. Every cannon has AoE, in SL only commandos are able to use AoE bc they are tanks.

Yes, a pistol has more base damage. Lets look at it this way.

You have a mob of about 10, what would you beat them with?

Would you take them out one by one with a pistol?

    Or

Would you shoot them all at the same time using a cannon since it has AoE (splash damage)?

Using AoE causes you to tank in a way.

    Lets look at this scenario.

Let's say I have the lvl35 Plat set, growing rage at lvl6, and a custom electricity cannon. I go to biosphere to do xp runs. I'll be going very fast.

Pistols, rifles, engi gloves, and double pistols are all single target guns. Where as a cannon can attack multiple enemies at once, damaging them all.

Imo coms are better with cannons.

I beg to differ, i think alot of the twp handed weapons look alot cooler...lol but thats a matter of opinion. The extra armor provided from a shield really doesnt make that big of a difference if you have a reasonable engineer in the group. =D though it does make the engis job a little bit easier I guess.

Since no one has really explained this fully yet, here we go:

Splash damage is when you attack one enemy, and every enemy in his direct vicinity also takes damage. It's like you throw a grenade at someone's feet; when it explodes, the target, as well as everyone within the blast radius will take damage. So when you're using a heavy cannon, you'll notice that everyone near your target is also being hit as well. However, not all two handed weapons are heavy cannons. The heavy cannons have the very large weapon icon, opposed to the two handed rifles with the much skinnier weapon icon. I also believe most heavy cannons have handles on the top of the gun, and he actual weapon is under it. The splash damage is a hidden feature that is not listed on the weapon description.
