L17 Mage (guide)
I've been asked a few times in game how to make a decent low lvl pvp mage and how to fight with them.
GEAR:
Your gear depends on your play style. I've used a few different kinds of armor and L15 alchemist is my favorite, because of its high mana regen.
Mana regen on a low level Mage is crucial, so use armor like alchemist L15. If you run out of mana in a FFA match.. your in trouble. The reason why you want a L17 Mage and not a level 15 or 16 mage is so that you can use a dex ring and still be able to use alchemist armor. You should have just enough base dex and int for both items. A wand is almost always better on a low level Mage because of the extra damage. Wands will give you lots more damage (not dps) than a talon, and in return, slightly higher skill damage. Would you rather have two crits of 30 each over a period of 5 seconds or 1 crit with the damage of 100 over the course of 5 seconds?
If you want a good nuking set up to kill other mages quick, use high attack gear such as: full attack dex ring, L15 toyman, L15 expert, L10 wing from a platinum pack for hit%, and a L10 plat pack dex helm.
BUILD:
You want high heal (5-6), high lightning will debuff the enemy's defense and will provide a fast buff regen, and at least 3 fire (5-6 fire will give you a 12m range) to help yourself push you enemy away then freeze them.
Some people prefer the debuffs mages are given, but i prefer not to use them. Other mages you fight can easily heal and get rid of all its effects. (they work quite well on bears if you dont want to kite).
STRATEGY:
In the beginning of a fight (when fighting a bear), you want to waste time to let their rage die out. When you both say go use fire, drain, freeze, (fire, freeze, drain) then back off and heal. When you see their rage go away try using lightning, drain, ice, fire. If they are still not dead, back off and be prepared for their rage again.
18 will give you mana shield, but 17 is for the hardcore players
