All classes should have a Pure DPS Option. Most MMORPG have this. A option to pick a alternative path or to play a different role. I see nothing wrong with Mages wanting a full Dps option. I want the same for us Wars.

if mage has some brains, correct gears and awakes he can kill bosses (exclude only hydra and orrick) faster than rogue; if mobs banishable - immo staff+correct skills still best and killing mobs faster than 90% of rogues (but requires good party).
if u see every day too many useless mages - doesnt mean that mages weak at all.
yes most of mage's skills are too weak, but procs op and bugged.
about pvp - mages enough strong too (+bug about op frost bolt), and having mage in team is better than having 2nd rogue

in pve mages have only that role for now... or maybe u consider current mages as support/healer or? haha
