They're chinese bots - I assume the why is they somehow manage to make some profit out of it. They're not prevalent enough to overload anything, so no, they don't really affect performance. They do waste our time and increase our bandwidth costs though, which means less developer time and resources available to improve and add things for the actual players, so they're detrimental to the game in that way.

Ah ok are the devs going to update pvp anytime soon? We need some new content apart from pve, we have just been ignored on many threads on the topic of pvp.
