Those rewards are not convincing nor is the challenge. In those games you've mentioned, theres a monthly line quest which all players can participate, earning rewards as they complete tasks. The season pass is exclusive for those who pay, in return, they gain extra rewards for the rest of the season.

If this is something not for you, you don't have to buy it. But some players who chose to can benefit from it. Thereby, help the developers continue their work and invested further into the company.
It's just like the plat or items in store. No one is forcing you to buy them.
