Yes, you can try for 66, but it takes a lot of your time. The new cap won't be out until after the Dark Legends beta release in March, hopefully. You would need to ask a dev to be sure.

Crypt isn't always the best place, try first floor runs as well.

For XP only, Crypt runs sans boss is generally best, mainly because you have less risk of awakening a vamp (which costs tons of time, even when trying to evade it...)

I made 66 in about 8 hours of dedicated play after piddling about at 65 for some time racking up about 16K XP before going seriously for 66. So when I really ramped up play to get to 66, I had 85K to go and did it in about 8 hours, or 10K per hour. I dit use thrashers full out though, and was lucky to get into some good groups where at least one other was also on thrasher, and a bunch of really fast runs where all others were 65s also on thrasher and one 66 helping out guildies. Not too much chatter, and the host did his rmk just before the last mob exhaled its last breath...

I played on three evenings of about 3 hours each.

So in short: if you want to get to 66 without a lot of time:
- get yourself high on thrasher elixers
- find a good group (dont need to be all 65, just good players who play effectively, time their attacks to get (mega)combo's)
- not too much chatter
- dont do bosses or vamps

Theres plenty of time before next lvl cap since dark legends is coming out first, And yes Crypt is good for xp and farming using daily or 1.5 elixir will help a lot which is better than nothing
