I remember in the first few days of event him selling all his hoarded gems for 28K in forums. It was obvious he didn't mean to help the poor players, but only because he wasn't able to maximize his profit from hoarding.

Poor players don't even think about buying gems, they have much more important things to worry about if they're poor.

And if you're really really poor, then it's best to wait for the next awakening event, not to sell your kidneys to re-roll with "100k blue gems".
