    Default New-To-Commando Questions

    A few.

    What... is... "taunt"........ exactly? o.o

And what's a cannon for? Why would anyone use it when one could equip a rifle and have better everything [dmg, dps, frequently better health/mana too] instead?

Not sure what a "taunt" is either. But you are correct a cannon has good AoE. Talk about killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

    Taunt works like this.

A commando is the warrior class, therefore the tank. The tank has to make sure he keeps aggro since it has high health and armor to take heavy damage. Taunt helps keep aggro, as it makes the enemies attack the commando.

The cannon (as said above) is for AoE. AoE helps you attack multiple enemies at once, so you can target one but it will also shoot the others around it. This is also a good way to keep aggro.

The rifle is single target weapon, therefore making it have higher stats than the cannon so it can quickly take out 1 enemy at a time (in theory). The cannon shoots multiple enemies, therefore it doesn't need to have a high damage as you can kill a mob quickly with it.

Oooooohhhh. Yeah, I guess I have to test it out because I haven't been able to tangibly see the use of a cannon as easily. Thanks guys, guess I'm switching to a cannon. XD

Edit: Tested a cannon out in Dynstar. OOOHHHHHHHH. IC. Lol.

Commandos maintain aggro so that the ops and engis can take down enemies easily. Taunt is when you taunt (yes, literally) an enemy to come at you and an op/engi can take him down.

Cannons are aoe weapons. They're much better than rifles for tanking and they taunt other enemies near your first target. And really, the new cannons have awesome dps. My favorite is the primed flux cannon.

One thing you should know about commando taunts is that the starting taunt (force hammer) is practically useless compared to the others two (graviton slam and back breaker). I'd suggest you respect out of hammer as soon as you unlock one one of the others. Graviton hits several targets at once and slows down target movement, and back breaker has higher damage than either of the other two, and combos with a knockdown skill for increased damage.

Cannons are very powerful against groups of enemies, the trick is usually getting the bad guys bunched up enough for cannon fire to be effective. The gravity well skill works well for that, and in theory so does singularity.
I wrote a guide covering everything I could think of regarding commandos, its stickyed at the top of this forum and there's a link in my signature. Feel free to check it out if you have any other questions or comments.

A dark power dwells in there. Such as I have never felt before. It is the shadow of an ancient horror. One that can summon the spirits of the dead. I saw him, Gandalf, from out of the darkness. A Necromancer has come!
