about muting

I have these questions about muting
1. will the player know that I am the one who muted him?
2. If I mute someone, will he be able to talk to guild or public chat or private chat?
3. will the mute only be for 5 minutes or forever?

3) Until you take him off your ignore (mute) list.

When you mute somebody, it does not affect them what's so ever. All it does is when they talk, whether its normal chat, /g, or /tell, you will not see their text.
