Platinum is useful to have if you have spare cash lying around.
I also like the option that you can get free platinum from downloading apps and opening them, then restarting the game and you get your platinum. It is time consuming though.

Edit: just in case, by the dark side I mean become a platinum user, not referring to dark legends dark side...although you should check that out to...lol

You do not need platinum to write guides. Platinum does not apply to the forums at all, it is based on the three games, will be four in a couple of months.
You can post a guide in stages, but not everything is about guides. You can help just by posting on anyone's thread.
