If the discount is not going to make profit, it is useless to make a discount.

The ones who regularly buy platinum will most likely buy 2k plat pack and that's it. 2k plats is almost enough to lvl 3 toons to elite cap with trashers so there has to be quite a few new platinum consumers.

So using that equation out of that wikipedia article (the basic equation) if prices r lowered with 20% there should be >20% more consuming than there would be without the big platinum sale.

As I said, most platinum buying players will buy that single 2k plat pack regardless of the sales and therefore there should be whole lotta new consumers. Which is IMO unrealistic.

This all is in theory because we cannot rly have the actual platinum buying rates and we cannot procedure those two different scenarios at once.

Even though the 2k for 1 player is absurd, the base values itself are irrelevant since the aftermath only needs the theoretical differences between the sells without sales and with the sales. As the equation (and most parts of the theory) are completely theoretical they do have a theoretical meaning no matter about what is the content.

It doesn't require someone to be a mastermind to realize that campaign releases are the "go seasons" for platinum purchases (plat = elixirs) and businesswise it would be ridiculously bad call to lower prices at the moment when people consume platinum no matter if it is on sale or not.

STS doesn't do charity work for us, they do have to get a living out of their games.

All Legends' games are F2P, u should be happy for it already.

Obviously the solution here is that I steal everyone's plat than turn it into magic powder and sprinkle it over one of the few volcanuts creating massive eruptions all over Alterra bringing the dinosaurs back to life, which conveniently give 5000 xp per kill!!!!!
And have a 201% pink drop rate of humania items( ur guaranteed 2 pinks with a 1% chance for a third(plz don't cry the 1 is too rare)) then we all party in peaceful Alterra.

I personally do not have a clue about regular DL plat purchasing since I do not play it that much (last time I logged was two months ago).

It might work there, but it doesn't change the fact that it probably wouldn't have been effective in PL since it wasn't done.

You sir have completely missed the entire point that dudetus was making.

To make things easy, lets say 1 plat = $1. Let's say I will purchase 10 plat for 10 dollars even if there wasn't a plat sale.

Now, if there were a plat sale, making 1 plat $0.50, Maybe I would want to buy more, say 15 plat. The problem is now STS is only making $7.50 on that 15 plat instead of the $10 I would have spent.

Let's say I am really motivated and buy 20 plat, now they've sold me 20 plat for $10 instead of 10 plat for $10. The issue here is because I have more plat now, it will be longer before I buy more plat in the future, basically cannibalizing their future sales.

Obviously, you can play around with the numbers, like what kind of discount they would want to provide. Maybe it won't be 50%, but as the percentage discount goes down, there will also be less incentive for me to buy more plat.

That isn't even the big issue though. The biggest issue is that there is enough demand for plat right now at current prices that any discount they give would have a greater negative impact by lowering the amount of profit they would get from the plat sales that will happen regardless of if there is a plat sale, than the benefit STS would see from additional plat sales.
