Alterran Civil War
Summary
The Alterran Civil War was a major conflict that erupted between the Alterran Crimson Diamond Coalition and the Dark Alterran Empire with its collaborationist states. After the dissolution of the Alterran Kingdom, an underground resistance known as Alterra’s Diamonds was formed. The Union of the Ursan Socialist Republics was formed after gaining its independence from Dark Alterra. As the majority of these battles occurred in the south western regions of Alterra, the war became a significance of technology rapidly changing over time. The aftermath of the civil war led to a rivalry of two former allied organizations and eventually a series of short conflicts, appropriately known as the Alterran Heat Crisis.
Belligerents
Alterran Diamond Coalition
The major alliances of the Alterran Diamond Coalition were Alterra’s Diamonds, and the Union of the Ursan Socialist Republics. The Alterran Diamonds were an underground resistance group that were made of former Elf Queen loyalists, with their main objective to restore the Alterran Holy Kingdom. The Union of the Ursan Socialist Republics was founded by various party members of the Ursans for their independence, known as the Rushians. The alliance was only formed during the late stages of the war.
Dark Alterran Empire
The Silknight regime of the Dark Alterran Empire incorporated leaders of other kingdoms that had agreed to join forces. Despite this, the collaborationist states rivaled against each other which reduced the war effort of the Dark Alterran Empire. Some of the collaborationist states later defected near the end of the war. The empire altogether was infamous for committing far more atrocities than the Alterran Diamond Coalition.
Silknight Wars
Fathom Crypt Rebellion
The Dark Alterran Empire was founded in the city of Fathom Crypt, and prepared to launch various surprise attacks against the Alterran Kingdom Army. Due to the rise of corruption in Alterra, the rebels used it as an opportunity to weaken their opposing forces. The Alterran military was poorly mismanaged, which led to high casualties whenever they engaged in combat. On the other hand, Dark Alterra had proper equipment and used mana enchanted weapons against the governmental forces. The Dark Alterrans eventually succeeded in winning against the Alterran government, and resorted to capture the capital of the Alterran Kingdom.
Fall of Alterra
As the Dark Alterran troops kept using surprise tactics against the government, the Alterran Army was gradually weakening due to the sheer will of the Dark Alterran forces. The empire had also formed small alliance groups to overthrow the Elf Queen. They then ransacked the Alterran Holy Kingdom and succeeded in capturing the Elf Queen. The kingdom was then dissolved and formed into an empire. The surviving Elf Guard that escaped from the siege formed a resistance organization named Alterra’s Diamonds.
Western Front
Balefort Offensive
Fearing that the Union of the Ursan Socialist Republics would fall into enemy hands, the Rushian party members agreed to launch an offensive operation against Dark Alterra first. The Crimson Army marched up the mountains and fired artillery against the Dark Alterran occupied city of Balefort. However, the Dark Alterran forces were well trained against the invading forces. Dark Alterran reinforcements drove the Crimson Army back. The commanding generals were dismissed from service for their failure to capture Balefort.
First Battle of the Ursan Mountains
After achieving their victory, the Dark Alterran Empire declared war on the Union of the Ursan Socialist States. The morale of the Crimson Army declined at that time, which gave the Dark Alterran forces an upper hand to quickly capture the Rushian defenses of the Ursan Mountains. Military technology of the Dark Alterran Empire temporarily advanced, only due to the strict traditionalism of the Silknight regime that prohibited weapons made by the Crimson Army. The surviving forces of the Crimson Army fled back to their defense positions in order to recover their troops, despite facing heavy losses. This was their second major defeat for the Union of the Ursan Socialist Republics.
Siege of Medved
One army group of the Dark Alterran Empire was stationed near the border of Forest Haven to prepare for another battle. Another army group was to capture the Rushian capital, Medved. Despite Dark Alterra having superior firepower, Medved was heavily defended. Every citizen living there had to contribute to the war effort, such as building obstructures and producing more firearms. The generals who led the siege noticed their forces became weary, and were later granted permission to withdraw to combine an army group that was prepared to capture Forest Haven.
Battle of Forest Haven
The second battle in the Alterran Western Front became a major turning point mainly for the Union of the Ursan Socialist Republics. Despite overwhelming forces of the Dark Alterran Empire, the army led by the Silknight regime had to adapt with street fighting that the Crimson Army excelled at. Rushian technology was one of their biggest advantages they had, despite Dark Alterran enchanted weapons having better precision and range. Some resistance groups of the Alterran Diamonds volunteered to join with the Crimson Army in non combat regions. The aftermath of the battle resulted in a devastating loss towards the Dark Alterran Empire.
Dark Forest Offensive
Months after the Crimson Army reorganized their military structure, the command launched their new operation. The divisions that defended Forest Haven began to drive the opposing forces back to the borders, while the divisions from the Rushian capital advanced to disrupt enemy lines. Mana propelled artillery trucks and biplanes first saw combat experience during the offensive. The battle was fought mostly in flat lands, rather than forests due to many being cut down from logistic troops on both sides. The remaining forces of the Dark Alterran Empire retreated to the mountains in order to defend their capital.
Second Battle of the Ursan Mountains
Aerial superiority of the Crimson Army became a strategic importance, that it was one of the major changes that shaped modern warfare. Mountain divisions of bombarded Dark Alterran defenses and despite heavy usage, they began to take heavy losses as well. Few of the organized bunkers were so well prepared that it took weeks to capture them. Mountain warfare was considered a difficulty for both sides throughout the course of war. After achieving another victory from the Crimson Army, the leading forces took railway transport to capture the city of Balefort.
Battle of Balefort
The divisions of the Crimson Army had begun encircling the capital of Dark Alterra. One of the well known strongholds in Balefort was the Elf Queen’s residence, eventually captured by the Crimson Army and later became a headquarters for the Alterran Diamonds temporarily. Days after the liberation of Balefort, the Elf Queen was rescued from the raid operated by the former Elf Guard of Alterra’s Diamonds. The leadership of the Alterran Diamonds and the Union of the Ursan Socialist Republics made an agreement to officially form an alliance named the Alterran Crimson Diamond Coalition. The Crimson Army became the leading force to recapture the Alterran Holy Palace.
Capital Final Battle
After the Crimson Army encircled the capital, they started to fight Dark Alterran and collaborationist troops underground. As soon as the Crimson Army took over the walls, the Alterran Diamonds were able advance through the gates of the capital. The Crimson Army started to assault the Alterran Holy Palace, which became the final victory of the allied coalition. Silknight’s unknown death resulted in the dissolution of the Dark Alterran Empire and the collaborationist states. The Elf Queen succeeded in restoring the Kingdom of Alterra, ending the Alterran Civil War.
Aftermath
South western regions of Alterra had been devastated from the years of the civil war. Millions were displaced and thousands of civilians had lost their lives even when the Alterran Diamonds tried to save them. The Dark Alterran generals were labeled as war criminals and those who were classified as highly dangerous were executed by the order of the Rushian party members.
The Alterran Diamonds eventually succeeded as the Diamond Executive Agency, which was in charge of governmental and national intelligence services. On the other hand, the Socialist Ursan Agency was founded before the civil war and remained as a secret police organization.
