For the first 2 chests in the event zone, the weapon button sometimes does not change to interact while a gun is equipped, but it is fine for one of the chests with a staff. Killing this enemy seems to fix it.

That skeleton is in range of the gun but not the staff. If there is an enemy in range, the context action is attack. I think you can tap on the chest instead if you want to open it when there is an enemy in range.
Ah ok. It confused me when I couldn't open the chest since enemy is in range, but not attackable. Clicking on a chest works.
