I guess I have to play it a few times if I can get a relic axe with it, is a relic axe actually strongest weapon, or just a status one?

Relic axes provides higher defense..It's hard to kill that person. Obviously, it's slow movement weapon with bleed effect chance. Indeed it is showcase of status and rivalry.
