Heal. Max it out minus the range (range on that skill is pretty useless imo). The mana regen helps out a lot more than some ppl think. Shield is waste of points. However, it depends on the type of build you want too.
From what ive heard, dont go for shield. Its good for beginning but by end game, groups of mobs or bosses will hit the max dmg absorbed cap really fast.
Plus, even if heal doesn't heal enough, there's still the added mana regen.
Mana regen doesnt really help me.. Owl helps me heals anyways.. So i think im going to go with shield
I'd go with Heal. First, it helps your allies as well. Second, you only use mana on it when needed (and it returns some too), whereas with Shield you use mana on it pretty much all the time. Third, (and the most important for me) it's always there when you need it. This means if you get hit you use it. With Shield you guess you will be hit soon and try to time it beforehand.
Also, if you want to be a successful sorcerer you won't use the owl for long.

I use Arcane Shield when soloing or when in a group with a tank that can't hold aggro. If I'm with a solid tank and know I won't get hit, I go with heals to help out and reward the good tank.
