For Fun and Fairness
Our Legendary Leaderboards are Changing!
Leaderboards have been a part of Arlor's DNA since day one.
They have always been a fun way to flex your skills and your savvy (and sometimes just how much free time you have)!
Over the years, we've seen some fierce competition... and some less-than-fierce ones,
along with plenty of debate over how they work, how rewards are given, and what's fair.
We've been listening - and based on your feedback, we're making some major upgrades.
What's Changing?
Bound Rewards
Leaderboard rewards will be bound!
By 'bound' we mean stash-friendly and character-bound rewards.
Our aim is to eliminate all trade-friendly Leaderboard rewards - with the exception of Jewels.
Old-school LB purists have long criticized us for awarding trade-friendly items.
Trade-friendly rewards have encouraged deliberate ties and rank-stacking via alt characters.
Making future LB rewards bound (stash-friendly) should diminish these undesirable behaviors.
No More Locked Crate Score
Locked Crates will no longer award event score!
This has been one of the most controversial features of recent Leaderboards and we're going to revert it.
In reality no one has actually won LB simply by purchasing locked crates.
Nevertheless, this feature is very unpopular.
Old-school, new-school, casual and hardcore players have criticized this mechanism for being too P2W.
Moving forward, locked crates will not provide any event score.
No More Farmer's Elixir Score Buff
Farmer Elixirs will no longer buff event score!
While not as controversial as our process of directly awarding event score for opening locked crates,
the Score buff from "Farmer Elixirs" has been very unpopular, and worthy of reconsideration.
LB runners have been clear and consistent in their criticism of this mechanism...
And we are removing it!
More Consistent Rewards
Leaderboards will have simple, predictable rewards!
A Title. A Banner. A Badge... and that'll be it.
(apart from bragging rights, and maybe a Jewel)
Super awesome, exciting vanity items tend to fuel controversy and make runners unhappy.
Mid, weak, and otherwise unexciting vanities tend to fuel controversy and make runners unhappy.
We strongly believe that making event LB's about competition with simple and predictable rewards is the best thing.
So, moving forward: expect Leaderboards to offer a Title, a Banner, a Badge (and maybe a Jewel)!
So what's next?
Stronghold Siege is happening later this week (preview tomorrow), and the 2025 Dragkin Temple will drop a few weeks after.
Both of these events will follow the directives that I outlined above.
We look forward to hearing what you have to say about these events as they unfold.
In the meantime, please feel free to share your thoughts on the aforementioned.
Best wishes!
