Just a quick question, do we always used to get platinum back after a certain event elixires remain in our inventory after the events or the amulett event was a special case? or it is a new function /update to the game?

No, was a one time thing. We'll try to make sure platinum purchases removed when events end are labelled more clearly for the future.
