I think AL is such a good game to integrate rogue-like as a game-mode since we already have wave based events such ad temple.
You start off with no gear and level 1 at wave 1. As you level up and progress through the waves, you get choices of upgrades such as abilities or items, and then upgrade for those items and abilities on future waves.
It’s a non-pay-to-win, and it would be fun for everyone involved. Higher waves could have guaranteed items drops and gold drops. But reaching higher waves would require both luck to be able to find good upgrades and creativity to use all the tools you have.
