    Lightbulb Auction Buyer Offers

    Auction Improvement Suggestion
Allow sellers to accept or decline offers from buyers.
For example, I list an item for 75M. Buyers can then send offers (e.g., 70M), and I can choose to accept or reject them.
This would make the auction system more flexible and beneficial for both buyers and sellers.

Isn't the same when the buyer sends you pm from his house with his offer?

    Not really.

A PM offer is just "words" cause the buyer can disappear, lowball everyone, or spam with zero commitment, yk.
With an Auction Offer system the buyer puts the gold into escrow (deposit) when sending the offer, so it’s a real, paid offer.

    So if the seller accepts:
    - gold is transferred instantly to the seller
    - the item is delivered automatically to the buyer

That’s the whole point: less spam, no fake offers, no time wasted in DMs.

Thanks, supremacy, for the clear explanation! You’re absolutely right - a PM offer is just "words" with no commitment, while an escrow-based system ensures real, binding transactions (gold locked upfront, instant transfer, no spam).

Mitsoos, your question was spot on, but supremacy nailed the key difference: this isn’t about replacing PMs - it’s about adding a risk-free, automated layer that protects both sides.

    Big up for clarifying this!

Considering edge cases, this would require some coding time for a component with multiple functionalities. For what, to "save time writing 1 house mail"? If not all edge cases are covered, this could create more problems than it solves.

I get what you mean about edge cases, but it’s not just "saving 1 house mail".

PM offers are basically "trust me bro", people js lowball everyone for free, spam, then disappear.
With an Auction offer system the offer is paid (escrow), so it’s real.
If the seller hits Accept → gold goes to seller instantly, item goes to buyer instantly

Edge cases are pretty easy to cover with normal rules:
    - Offer = escrow + timer (6/12/24h or 1/2/3d or idc). If it expires → gold auto-returns.
    - Only 1 active offer per buyer per listing (or new one replaces old one).
    - Seller can turn offers OFF if they want. (thats an option)
    - Seller can set "auto-decline below X" so they don’t even see trash offers. (maybe this one is useless tho)
    - Delivery goes to an Auction "Claim/Inbox" so if buyer has no space, it just sits there until they claim it. (or either reserve a slot in inventory, but imo it's easier to create a new slots section for this or idk).

That’s absolutely not "extra problems" ffs, it's literally how you prevent spam and make offers actually work.
Even a simple version (escrow + expire + 1 active offer) would already be a huge QoL.

Not much difference between this and a system that allows highest bidding. Highest bidding might be simpler because we only need to keep track of one bid per item instead of multiple offers per item and letting the seller choose the offer. Both systems still have many more required features than are even listed in this thread.

The only way I’d consider expanding the consignment shop (auction house) with full bidding support is if we didn’t have a gold limit and if we removed player trade so that all player item transfers used the auction house.

So, sorry, no plans to do this.

    As a buyer -
Many people have me on ignore list and refuse to sell me items.
Many people are afk or offline.
Many have different times they are online.

    As a seller -
Many people have purposely made me cancel an item in auction just to log off and not buy it so I lose out of millions of auction taxes worth of gold.

Buyer tries to rip me off and say they will buy my item for say 1m less, then when the trade comes they try to offer less than what we already agreed on and I tell them no and now I refuse to sell them the item because we had an agreement and they tried to leverage "Black Mail" my auction tax against me as a loss to try and buy my item for less so they can go get f.

realistically we don’t have a gold limit anymore thanks to gold bars. Imo, highest bidding system might seem like a satisfying solution for some merchers but many players already “bid” and “send offers” to each other every day through pm’s, house mail, forums, the problem is without anything being put upfront it allows for trolls to waste everyone’s time, as mentioned by others already.

the best system i can think of is allowing for both (Buy) and (Offer) in auction house. a few examples:

    • Someone lists an item only looking for the best offers, they can list their item in auction house under the (Offer) only, players can offer just as if they’re using the trade window, offering gold, gold bars, vanities, gears, etc.

    • Someone lists an item with a fixed auto (pure gold), they can list their item in auction under (Buy) only, this is the current auction house system, only with the addition of gold bars.

    • Someone lists an item for gold but is also open to offers, they can list their item for both (Buy) and (Offer). If someone has enough gold to buy it can be bought, until then the seller can receive offers for that item.

With this system implemented all offers are sent directly to the seller through auction house, just as they can view their items sold, they can view offers sent to them. Typically each account can only send 3 offers for any 1 item per day to minimize spamming. If a player sends an offer and removes anything in that offer from their account, their offers are automatically voided.

If player trading is to be removed, it should only be done in this manner since auction house and trading would basically merge, allowing for all sales and trades to be done in auction house anywhere at anytime. Bonus points if notifications are added when offers are received, accepted, denied, and items are sold.

Why would any of this require removing player trade
