    Default Empty towns

    Hello,

Today I was just flowing through the towns and I tend to noticed some of the older maps *towns* tend to be often empty.

Specific maps I noticed *Shuyal, undervalued, glintstone, nordr, Sometimes zodias.

I think these maps are all beautiful and would be nice to see people hanging around in the maps more often.

    *Just an idea*
You can tell me if this is bad lol

But adding a npc you can interact with *unique to specific town* and it allowed you to play a simple game.

    Basically the idea is

You and a friend or foe interact with the npc to play the *specific game of that town* so in some cases it would be arlorian chess others a coin toss. Anyways you'd be able to bet gold 1k-999m *wager match*

    Non lb ofc

Also adding more unique farmable items in the maps attached to said town would be cool. Like see antignome be more droppable easier for hc and f2p to obtain a nice set. And or something farmable thats useful for all levels no matter the expansion

    Thank you!

there are a few macroscopic reasons for why towns feel empty. two of the most populous towns are paradise pier and expedition camp - both happen to be beach side places whose ambiance and soundscapes people maybe enjoy the most. and because a good chunk of people stay in these towns, all the sellers swarm in these towns. about 9-10 years or so, kraag, stronghold, shuyal, etc would be bustling with people because questing in these maps actually served a purpose and people actually played the game. one would argue that back then the level cap was quite low so those people just represented the players on their way to end game, but today the level cap is much higher and people still aren't in other towns like somberholt, vardan valley or even heracleion, so that pipeline has def died out.

sadly as of now things are so bad, 80-85% of the population doesn't play the game but are instead focused on peddling wares because everything is so outright expensive beyond measure and everyone's just trying to keep up. add to that the fact that older maps no longer drop items of much or any value and people basically have no reason to stay there.

festerfang has that arena thing that attracts PVPers but thats also a fringe population, especially considering that lower lvl pvp revival is on the uptick with new lvl13, 28, 41, 46 pvp guilds and players forming.

now while the idea you suggested is good in theory but in terms of pure value and impact is of no use to STS. they basically get no returns on development time and efforts just for the sake of populating old towns - a problem i highly doubt STS cares about.

the only way to get people back in those towns is to give players reasons to farm those maps or do something so they actually get to play the game rather than spending ~90% of their time peddling wares here and there.

    Hello,

While I am aware the player base has dwindled away year by year. As of more recent times theirs definitely an influx of players. Not only this but sts did claim that they are going to promote the game again.

You say sts doesn't benefit from this but I disagree. The best way to keep customers in a mmorpg is player retention. While I won't claim this will keep players online for an extra 5 hours it will keep people coming back.

You doubt sts yet they are still trying. Maybe some of it is pay to play but they still need to make some sort of profit.

Im sure will see more of the pay to play stuff be removed once they promote the game again.

    Thank you

i agree, retention is the best way to keep things going. but thats what awakes, op pets and gear is for! since all of it locked behind plat, people have to spend real money to get them, and when you invest real money, yoiure more inclined to stick with things than not. its the whole reason why free courses, for example, don't work - because people dont have skin in the game. free stuff based on gambling isn't quite a good strategy, only and only because sts sucks at transparency, odds of rng and loot aren't available like most games, so we end up repeating the same spectacle as sir spendsalot (who is more widely known as scamsalot) because if one too many times things dont go your way, theres uproar and outcry of bias, cheating and whatnot. so this is more alienating than something that aids retention.

i know they're trying hard to keep things going but i honestly think theres no better (other) way of "fixing" the economy without hurting either sts or the whales, who are their largest and most profitable customers. i really want them to succeed but im skeptical at best, loss of hope at worst.

Towns are also somewhat empty during events with event towns.

Since you can farm any dungeon from the world map, adding content to the campaign dungeons can still be achieved without going to the campaign towns.

Best thing we could probably do is add items to purchase from the campaign vendors (similar to what was recently done with Kraag and Sir Spendsalot) that would give players a reason to go to those towns, but we're focusing on new content.
