    Default Auction Negotiation Feature

How about adding a new feature that allows players to send a negotiation request to sellers for items listed in the auction?

When a player sends a negotiation request, the required amount of gold would be temporarily deducted from their account and held until the negotiation is resolved. The gold would be refunded if the buyer cancels the request or if the seller rejects it.

I think this could be a really useful addition to the auction system. It would give buyers more flexibility when an item is listed at a price they’re not willing to pay, while also giving sellers the opportunity to accept a reasonable offer instead of having the item sit unsold. It could make the auction more interactive and potentially increase the number of successful trades.

It would be especially useful for expensive or niche items where buyers and sellers may be willing to negotiate rather than simply waiting for someone to accept the listed price.

I think it would be better to have a dedicated system for this rather than relying on PMs or housemail. Having the offer appear directly in the auction menu would make the whole process much cleaner and easier to manage.

Housemails and pms arent a good solution because seller cant know whos seriuous buyer, also u can alrdy do that. Instead this feature would be really cool, the seller get the gold straight away no need waste time.

    Pretty good idea.

I'm just thinking out loud here. How would this affect sellers? There would be a significant powershift towards buyers. Not rooting for either side but this should be considered. Putting something up for auction from the point of introducing this idea will likely often lead to getting offers lower than your selling price, resulting in a wasted 5% auction tax as you're already selling for a price lower than the original -5%, essentially receiving at least 10% less for the item.

Buyers will probably be happy with this. This could be a method to counter some sellers (and their monopoly on some items) putting up items for ridiculously high prices. However, the added competition from negotiations might increase the price a bit. Depends on whether buyers will be able to see other people's current offers yes or no, a bit like the housing market.

Many more things to consider, curious what devs think about this.

Yeah, I get the concern, but I don’t really see it as a loss as long as the seller is willingly accepting the negotiated price. The seller would still have full control over whether the offer is worth taking or not.

If they listed a 50m item and decide that 40m is a price they’re happy with, then the negotiation simply gives them another way to sell it. The 5% listing tax is already part of the cost of using the auction regardless.

That makes the seller ultimately get 37.5m for their item. Pretty huge loss if you ask me. Could've sold it outside the auction for 37.5m to begin with or on auction for 40m, win for the buyer, loss for the seller. It would lower prices in general. Hey I need veil and prices are inflated right now so fine lol.

Also there would be a lot of incentive for the buyer to offer lower than the selling price, especially if there are let's say 10 of an item for sale or the item is hard to sell like you said. Only scarcity, sudden need (oh I got a veil weap so I need chemist stones) or hoarding would make a buyer pay the auction price.

Idk if bad or good or both, but it will have massive consequences.

Yeah, I see your point about the 5% tax. Since it’s paid upfront, a seller accepting a lower offer would obviously end up getting less after tax. But if the seller is still willingly accepting that offer, I think that’s more of a choice than a forced loss.

As for the effect on prices, I think that could be minimized by not showing other players the final negotiated price and who the item was sold to. That way, one negotiated deal wouldn’t become a publicly visible reference price that other buyers and sellers could use to push the market in a certain direction.

The seller still has the option to reject any offer they feel is too low, so I don’t think negotiations would necessarily hurt sellers. It would just give both sides another option.

Ebay has a system like this called offers which are for buy it now items, and a seller can accept the offer or counter offer, offers are good for 24 hours then they expire and same for when a seller counter offers. The only thing is ebay does not show what offers to other buyers also seller can set a auto reject price and a user has a limit to the amount of offers they can try before they can no longer offer. So if a seller were to say list something for $100 the seller could say don't even show me offers below $90. Then someone interested can offer and the start at $85 it auto rejects and says you have 2 more tries for offers, they do $92 next and it says offer submitted, then seller looks and decides to counter offer for $95 the buyer accepts and the sale is complete. The only tricky part with offers is that the buyer needs to actually put in their gold of the offer, this is to prevent people from offering and getting accepted and then the buyer no longer had gold.

    Default Auction Negotiation Feature

There could also be an option to offer an item / items (plus gold if needed) .
