Maybe you could have gotten a smelly helm and glad it's been replaced by an epic one.
I think reroll elixers suck and the only thing they seem to is get me the occasional pet egg, it seems to me that they are anti-luck elixers
Actually I think without the elixir you would have received something worse than the chipped axe. I know, still sucks. I sympathize.

That's harsh, I think I just got the bad luck elixir from Klaas, 30 mins of storming through early levels which has often gotten me at least one locked crate but this time I only had 5 rerolls which got me 4 epics and 1 rare.

It just bumps you up one level from what you would have gotten. You got a purple on the reroll. Had you not rerolled you'd have gotten a green.
But, yeah, I always laugh when I "reroll for better loot" and get a green. So anticlimactic.
