It was given to those who had been playing the game since the first 2 months of it's release. I meant earned as in meeting the requirements for, or obtaining in return for services. People that had been supporting STS since their initial launch were providing their services long enough for STS to give them a gift as a form of appreciation.
All depends how you look at it though, and how you define the word "earn".

Just dont want anyone glorifying all founders for their bravery and valiance in earning the founders helm. They gave it to every account made by a certain date, nothing more, nothing less. It is unfair to obtain one any other way, but it's not like the founders are being cheated out of their hundreds of hours of hard work and determination. They're just being put on the same level as whoever chooses to obtain a founder unfairly.

Agreed, and I am by no means saying that. Like you said, it's unfair to obtain it without actually meeting the requirements for it, which is just like everything else. It's like a trophy, you can go out and buy one from a store for a couple bucks, but it doesn't mean anything unless you actually did something for it or met the requirements to receive one. Which is I guess why it bugs me, you can't decipher an actual founder with the helm from just some random player who bought it. It ruins the sole purpose of the helm being implemented. I'd feel no different about something like the gratitude shield, or even that ugly frozen gratitude helm, because if the devs wanted just anyone to have it they would have.
