I'm in high school and play the flute, but I'm not the best.
Our final exam for first semester also doubled as an aduition for the 2nd semester bands - the 2 top wind ensembles, two jazz groups, and one symphonic band.
I didn't make any of them.
I did great on the scales of course, and ok on the exerpt, but sight reading? Horrible. I havn't really gotten the tactic of looking ahead yet. For me, jazz sounds great, but is hard to actually play - can't really articulate properly and have no improv skills whatsoever.
Nonetheless, I do keep at it diligently. I'm not trying to be the best, rather just enjoying playing and creating music daily.

Few things:
Aight guys the contest is almost ready. Start date is Friday midnight EST. I will post up the contest rules later today so you have a chance to absorb and ask questions, but won't go live until Friday. It is going to be fun, lots of things for us to do. Also, the contest time frame is one week.
I have gotten some buzz about recruiting. Reminding everyone that the required stats are listed on page one here, please review them. We will only take people who can run elites with us. Don't be inviting nabs! Legendary players are fine if they can hang, but please make sure they can.
Recruiting is open, but yes we will close it the week we do the singe contest for obvious reasons. (;
