If they're slowed down by the barrier, either they're doing it wrong, or the other leaderboard runners are slowed down by the same amount, which makes it irrelevant.
If there are changes, it will be in the interest of preventing people from missing out when there are inconsiderate people there.
We also certainly wouldn't change it to reward everyone in the zone, as that just means people hanging out at the zonein waiting for their rewards.
