As others have said before me, new sets always cost way more because they are "new and shiny". Custom Recurve sets were absolutely ridiculous for a few days once people got them....I got offered 6m for mine very early in Sewers, and in reality, 10m for Demonic is not *that* crazy compared to that when you think that people have farmed (or merched) for 7 months since Sewers came out and made a ton of gold. Is it silly expensive? Yes. Are people willing to spend it, whatever their reasons? Yes.
The reason prices are creeping up for endgame sets after each expansion is because there is more gold in the PL economy the longer the game is out, and people are willing to spend more. This happens in every game with an Auction House or CS that has ever existed....the people with the most money will spend it to have the best gear.
Does it disadvantage the casual player who really just plays for fun or has not spent hours farming? Sure. But that was their choice, for various reasons. But you can't penalize the players who did put the time to farm/merch/rob the STS bank vault of HoHos, RedBull and Cinco's gold stash.
The Vyx Helm of Hate once was going for 3-4mill, briefly. You can now get one for 100k.

Just reading the comments on this are making me lol.![]()
Having just started PL in June, I totally feel your pain about not having a large bankroll to keep up with latest and greatest equipment.
With that said, I do enjoy the challenge of building a serviceable "poor man's" set up and agree with WhoIsThis that there is some great value play pinks to be found. (BTW, thanks Devs for giving us newer players w/out deep pockets the chance to have some solid gear at a reasonable price) For ex: compare the following 3 Bracers (sorry I'm a Mage so I only follow Mage gear. I'm assuming there are similar value plays for Birds & Bears)
Glyph Bracer of Charmin' Req: Level 60, 20 Int, 5% Crit, 5 H/s, 5 M/s, 9 Damage, 40 Armor
Nuri's Glyph Bracer Req: Level 60, 22 Int, 5% Crit, 5 H/s, 5 M/s, 8 Damage, 39 Armor
Imhotep Eye of Charmin' Req: Level 60, 20 Int, 5% Crit, 5 H/s, 5 M/s, 9 Damage, 41 Armor
As you can imagine the Glyph's are what some would say are crazy pricey at this time, but you can pick up an Imhotep Eye for less than 10K. Sure it doesn't look as cool, and doesn't generate a set bonus, however for a fraction of the cost you can find a piece of gear that is serviceable as you patiently wait for prices to fall and you build up a huge war chest in the mean time! Be patient, eventually there will be enough good drops to drive down prices or Mt Fang will come out with even more righteous gear causing Glyph/Demonic to fall.
Anyhow, go check out Yanis' awesome list of Nuri Pinks and build yourself a solid "poor man's" set. I believe you'll find some satisfaction in having a solid set of equipment at rock bottom prices and then laugh to yourself when Glyph/Demonic becomes "obsolete" and you pick it up at a 1/4 of today's prices. (Which is how I liberated my MM set and made the run from 55 to 60 in that load out...)
Good luck and I hope to see you at the Circus!

Exactly. Same follows for the dex sets...the Glyph Mimicry is pretty solid, and even cheaper bows/daggers/wing shields that are less than 10% of Obedience cost are completely useful....maybe not new and shiny like the Demonic/Obedience/Charmin'/Strongman sets with their bonuses, but player skill can easily overcome any advantage from set bonuses. One of the best archers in the game used a green set all the way through Sewers, I think he spent like 60k on it at the time people were playing 1m-3m for Raid and Custom sets.

Aehm. Just for correction:
I made this thread in order to create a discussion about the prices not to flame about the prices.
I personally have Glyph Obe Dagger set + my farmed 2mil and I'm totally happy with it. Altough it was very kind of you Kelstrick to put help for a low budget l33t equipment I personally don't need it.
EDIT: Yeah cu on Nuri's!![]()
Just keep farming. I went from simply 500k to 1.5 mil in one day by getting a lvl60 glyph strongman helmet.

As Moog said before, new sparkly sets are the expensive ones right now and yes prices are pretty high. I think it really has to do with what happened in the Sewer campaign. For people that have been around awhile and quickly went to 55/56 in the Sewers, there wasn't a lot of other things to do except farm gear and pvp. So many many people farmed gear for months on end. Also, the Sewers basically had no "junk" or low-end pink drops. Every pink that dropped in the sewers was basically a high end pink -- so prices for many of those items never dropped. If you wanted to have end-game gear, you farmed it or bought it for a set.
The amount of time between Nuri and the Sewers, combined with the steady prices of end-game pinks there, resulted in a pretty big accumulation of wealth by a lot of players. Many of them just banked money in stash and on mules in anticipation of the Nuri campaign. So when it came out, many people for the first time had something to spend their gold on.
With the new equipment and the rarity of set items, prices naturally are high. Supply and demand. People will spend 2.5 Million on an Obedience cap because the money is there and the drops are rare. I have leveled 3 toons to 61 and in that time have recieved a total of 6 glyph drops (and none of them are the big ticket helms, bows, or wands). So drops are rare. I see them. Some have gotten more. Some have gotten less. The prices of these items will drop with time. But it will be a while.
In the mean time we are just dealing with the result of the Sewers being released for so long and the steady growth in wealth because of it. For the casual player it will be tough for a while. But in the end really all you are paying all that extra gold for is some sparkles and a little ego. The other Nuri gear is cheap and very effective for toons. And for casual players that really should be good enough until they either get a few good drops or the next campaign comes out and the bottom falls out of the current market and moves on to the next set of gear.
Just my thoughts, anyway.
Preach on Brotha!!!!, PL has changed from the innocent, fun game it use to be (up through ao3) to a hardcore, elite player focused, $$ machine. Most MMO's do his as they gain popularity. I remember what got me hooked was the fun and sense of accomplishment you could get every time you logged in to play for an hour or two. Now, it's just endless hours of grinding the same maps. The only reason I play at all anymore is just to see friends and I don't particularly look forward to the next update. I'm quite surprised that STS hasn't implemented more side game features (QUESTS) to keep us all interested that gives similar rewards to the cyber quests. Those were great quests and gave you something similar to elite pinks for your time and effort.
And then there is Crim.....
I am taking the AO3/Shadow/Sewer/Sandstone approach: Patience is a virtue. I currently own the three pink sets which do not give bonuses and I perform just fine without the sparkles. As others have said, prices will begin to lower once 1) Mt. Fang is released and 2) more people reach level 60.
My advice is to cash in on pink drops and build your gold up this way. Good luck!

If it's funny the rich always want to stay rich and the poor always wish they were rich.
I will say I don't see a lot of generocity in the game anymore, I've given away millions to other players.
But if you need a dime Good luck find it now unless you're in the guild and even then that's no guarantee.
The game reflect society in it's all about status, when I decided to play to have fun not win pinks I enjoyed it a lot more!
Prices are fine... no need to devote your life i work 12hrs a day 7 days a week and i keep up just fine. all u need are basic math skills and a good drop every once in a while and your set.
Glyph Big Top is better than Strongman Glyph anyway.
How? Big top cant be crafted into demonic.
Go look in the cs at L55 premium gear; if anything, prices are ridiculously low for that level compared to a couple weeks ago. This should actually make it easier for players to get awesome sets from sewers when they're starting the nuri campaign.

I can't imagine the ludicrous prices we'll see on Mt. Fang items when it's released.![]()
