Right now, there are several problems involving PM's (Private Messages).
- These problems include:
- A player has to be online to receive a PM
- If a player receives several PM's (from the same person) and misses them in the chat log, they only receive an alert of the newest one
- If a player receives a PM and logs out (for any reason) without reading it, they cannot get it back and will never be able to read it (ever)
The result is a poorly designed messaging system. For example, let's say I want to remind my friend that he owes me 20k. If he's not online, I have no way of alerting him. Therefore, if I'm unable to catch my friend online, he won't remember about the money and I may never be paid back.
My proposed solution: Make PM's viewable (and even possibly sent) from a new window (window being a menu, such as the inventory screen or character screen). This new window could simply be titled "Mailbox" and would allow players to catch up on missed messages and to talk to those who aren't online. Alerts could pop up (in the alert window of course) saying something such as "You've got mail!" with a link to the mailbox. The mailbox would be accessed from the menu which is opened when you click on your character name (top left of the screen).
If anyone has any additional input for this, please feel free to reply! Any and all ideas are welcome!
Sincerely,
~Koli
