Default Sorcerer, confused about all the equipment choices

Hi guys, first post! I'm fairly new; I have a lvl 19 sorcerer. I know to put all my skill points in intelligence, and I have a nice build of fireball, frost bolt, time shift and life giver...and atm putting new skills into passive. I get by, but have to consume a heck of a lot of mana and hp pots.

So, my question, which I suspect can have many different answers....but I appreciate any and all advice: I have a boatload of gear, and I don't know what stats I should be equipping for. Seems like I chose a piece that gives me more INT or DMG or whatever....only to have that benefit wiped out the next time I equip some other piece to get a boost of some other stat (which the notification in upper right says is "better than what you currently have equipped" which i'm beginning to question the accuracy of) What stats should I aim for with my gears? Should I only use gears that are for my current level? Please, any guidance is appreciated...

You should aim for gear with INt+Strength (more Int than Strength). Also, welcome to forums.
    Iacito My guess: 2900

Thats how i do it. I putted all my skill points in INT
But i got 4 loadouts so i switch between them!

    1) INT/STR gear (Balanced mage)
    2) INT gear (Plenty of damage) + you use more heal pots :/
    3) STR gear (Sort of a TANK mage)
    4) INT/STR gear (Luck/Farming mage)

Just keep in mind dont sell a item who was saved in the loadout.

Thanks everyone, I got it: Combinations of INT+STR for my gears.

Higuani, I think that's a great way to do it. This also good method to experiment with various gears to see if I can keep from drawing aggro so easily.

    Two other points:

    1) Just ignore that message: "better than what you currently have equipped." It is almost never right, and I would never change my gear because of it. I still sometimes even get this message despite having top end game legendary and mythic gear.

    2) Early in the game, before you have a lot of experience and before you have all the top gear, the game is very pot intensive. I remember when I was starting out I never had enough gold to buy health and mana pots. It was very frusturating. This is not necessarily a flaw in your build, it is just how the game is designed.

    @drgrimmy:

    1) Tnx for confirmation of what I suspected. I've seen that message numerous times, I go look and campare and think "no way this is better than what I have equipped!"

    2) Good to know. My toon is squishy, but that's the nature of the class I guess. I die a fair bit. As I said above, I get along, but sometimes I'm tapping the pots as often as my spells, lol. I also can't seem to shake my warrior mentality (from Order and Chaos) and trying to go toe-to-toe.....not smart for a mage.

You can disable this by going into the game Options, click on the Alerts tab and uncheck "Upgrade Items" alert. This will save you plenty of these false alerts.

If you pick up an item with an single stat upgrade, you'll get that message (so if you were using an amulet with 50 int, 35 str, 5% crit, +8 damage, and +90 defense...and you picked up some random green amulet with +1% dodge, it would give you a 'better'message, since it improves a single stat).

Note: I made that amulet up. :P
