My Opinion:
The sword. You DPS (Damage Per Second) is much higher. Your dodge is higher (useful for tanking). You dont get as much crit... but the 3% different probably isnt gona make alot of difference once you average out the difference between damage dealt from dps difference. Strength also gives you more health (again, useful for tanking.)

Which means the dps on your target is higher for the entire party, not just your self.

Exactly, the trident is better due to the proc.
I know this is lame, but A few days ago I went into swamps by myself to experiment w weapons including tridents (inhale both pink swamp tridents)... In actual battle, the copperhead trident was the clear winner...

I think there are actually 3 pink tridents. Anyone have a favorite trident, and reason why?
BTW, I use the croc tooth as well, but not as much as the trident. I think the trident is superior in most situations, but the croc tooth sword is a nice weapon too. Love the pics in the OP
Thx guys, I have personnally tested out with the weapon during alone and in group and the final answer is Tridents are more fast kill than croc tooth sword.

The correct answer is Swamp Rat's Trident.
Edit: It wins over copperhead trident due to stat build/gear swapping issues.

oh yes.. juz got the swamp rat trident and is better than copperhead due to the strenght.

I beg to differ...This is what I get when I use the Copperheads trident...
this is what I get when I use the Swamprats Trident...
I know it doesn't seem like much...but that's the difference I see...

IMO if you are looking for more DPS, the clear winner is Copperhead every time, even with the two handers because of the crit it offers too. You only need enough str to carry your gear, then you pump dex. At least if you are going for DPS.
