Default Guide: How to Create a fun PvP Tournament!

**Side Note: to those who have trouble on the steps for figuring out where to make your tournament, feel free to PM me. However the only way to create tournaments is by providing a dev with a full, specific description of your tournament. They will give you access to hosting competitons. This also goes for prizes, if you want a prize given from the Devs, PM them. Be respectful in your PM's to the devs. General prizes given from Devs are platinum and Vanities**

    Hey PL community,

Who doesn't love the thrill of PvP? Isn't it always fun when you get yout heart racing in a tournament?

But some people come tell me:

A.) "Aww man. I didn't make it in time for the tournament."

B.) "Aww shucks. There are no tournaments up, I'm definitely in the mood for one though!"

Well folks, I'm here to tell you on how to create that fun tournament! Here's a simple table of contents to go through:

1.) Understanding what type of specific tournament you want to create.

2). Figuring out the level variety for the tournament.

3.) Creating specific rules for the tournament.

4.) Allowing players to enter tournament/organization

    5.) Prizes

    6.) Miscellaneous

    1: Specificity of a Tournament

Before you even begin thinking of creating a tournament, you need to decide on what kind of tournament you want to create. There's a few things you need to keep in mind when creating a tournament- never just create a tournament that only suits your needs (if you're going to join your own). First, it's important to understand the community and what's "up to date". If you're unsure of recent competitions that have been hosted, check with lots of players of the latest tournaments that have been held. Variety is key-- if a recent Capture the flag tournament has been made, try making a new Free for All tournament or 1 vs. 1 competition. Secondly, ask the community what they want to do! Creating a thread in this very here PvP discussion can really grab the communities attention. Ask the PvP community about what kind of tournament you should hold, then you'll have an idea.

    2: Specific Range Level

When hosting a tournament, it's just as important as figuring out the level range. Generally, a tournament should have a level range of 5 levels. (I.e. Levels 30-35, Levels 60-66 for end game, levels 10-15, etc.) Most people will not want to join a tournament with a tournament for all level ranges. Remember, it's important to tell everyone right away what the level range is. Nobody likes reading a whole developed tournament then figuring out the tournament is only for levels 1-5 (if you're a higher level). So make sure you point it out right away and keep variety in mind! Try to avoid doing the same level ranged pvp tournaments. If a level 30 tournament was held, try hosting a different level range of tournaments.

    3: Rules of a Tournament

The rules of a tournament are probably the most important aspect of hosting a good competition. BEING SPECIFIC IN YOUR RULES IN ESSENTIAL AND CRITICAL. If you're rules are not specific, the tournament will most likely not turn out the way you want it to. A good way to organize your rules is by numbering them down. Here's an example if I were to be hosting a 1 vs. 1 game:

    1.) Keep the tournament clean!
2.) The game will be played best out of three games. One game is equivalent to defeating your opponent to ten.
3.) The match will be played in: Forest Fight! FFA arena.
4.) Both players MUST say go, then allow your opponent to buff up. Any violation of this will result in a disqualification.
5.) If any player leaves while engaged in a fight and comes back, the player who DID NOT leave will have an added point to their score. (Yes, this goes for lag too.)
6.) If any player leaves during a whole match, it will result in a disqualification UNLESS the other opponent wishes to replay it.
7.) Both players must post the screen shots of the both games. The loser of a match isn't required to post but then the Winner must post it. (If you have trouble with S.S. let me know).
    8.) Have fun!

Of course then, there are other rules for different types of tournament. Make sure your rules are suited for your tournaments needs and make sure you listen to the community. Lots of people can give you helpful input on what to do!

4: Allowing players to enter/organization of tournament (times/teams)

When hosting a tournament, it's critical to allow your participants to join WITH EASE. Provide a link that gives quick access for your participants to quickly get to. It's also essential to explain on HOW to join a tournament (I.e where to find the "Join Tournament" button). On your tournament thread page, number off the list of teams or individual players. This way, players can quickly analyze if spots are being filled up fast. When it comes to organization, it's important to really emphasize that participants should either PM you, or post on the thread for scheduling times. Tell the participants it isn't necessarily a hosts job to schedule times, but you're always willing to help. **Remember, a good host is willing to help out as much as possible.** Specify that participants will be disqualified if they lack in scheduling their games, nobody likes a tournament that doesn't get its matches in! Providing players with links for simple access to certain pages is very helpful for newer forum members.

    5: Prizes!

Nobody likes a tournament without prizes! Prizes in my opinion are a huge motive for me in tournaments- but of course it's also the competitiveness and joy. NEVER EXPLAIN PRIZES YOU ARE UNWILLING TO GIVE OUT UNLESS YOU KNOW YOU CAN 100% PROVIDE THEM. Typically, if you're hosting a rather larger tournament, it's fun to give prizes to semi finalists, a runner up, and the finalist. Some prizes can vary in: Gold, Platinum, Items, a Vanity Item, or just bragging rights! There are a few ways of coming up with prizes:

A.) You give out the prizes.

B.) Ask for donations, but then explain bragging rights is the main prize.

C.) PM devs about your tournament and if they can provide a prize. Read the paragraph at the top explaining on how to create tournaments/respectfully PMing devs.

    6: Miscellaneous

Remember guys, you're the host of this tournament. Always encourage others to get their matches in and to keep moving the tournament along. BE ACTIVE! Talk with your participants about their time zones and what works best with them. Tell your participants that you can provide help with anything regarding the tournament. Also, never rush a tournament. Most tournaments can take weeks, even months at most.

Well guys, I hope this thread really helps. Tournaments is what really keeps me going in this game, (as well as friends), but I love the rush of PvP. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can.

Here are a couple of past successful tournaments that have been held:
