Well to answer your question. 12.14.11 is a rumor.
Someone had misread 11.14.11 as 12.14.11. I guess they were overexcited and then spread around 12.14.11.
If it comes tomorrow it'll be coincidence that it happens on 12.14.11.
Since the devs don't give a date on updated. They give a timeframe of when it could be released, so they aren't pressured by a final date.

Koala buddy its happened to the best of us, its a learning curve you will get it soon. As to why, they read their own forum, so they look in the threads as long as you explain what the thread is about in title (to peak interest)
